Being a fussy eater can be harmful for your child
Is your kid a fussy eater? Well, it can make meal times really traumatic. So why not try these tried and tested health tips for kids from other mothers who've converted the dining space from an arena into a fun place?
Eat well and eat together, if you can
Provide a number of healthier foods for your kid. A ham product with a side healthy salad, followed by some yoghurt contains the main recommended nutrient categories. Just be sure to provide different meals throughout the day. Eat with your kid whenever you can. Youngsters learn how to eat by copying their parents and other children. Try to provide him or her the same meals you have. If you like it, your kid may be happier to eat it as well.
Limit the options at meal times
Offer him meals that contain at least one thing that you know he prefers. If your kid is more likely to eat something he’s selected himself, let him pick from the healthier options.
Keep meal times to a set length
Most toddlers eat as much as they're going to in the first 30 minutes of their meals. Trying to steer them to eat more is unlikely to work, and will just give you needless stress.
Introduce new meals gently
Offer your kid just one new food item at a moment and try not to create a big hassle about it. Give him or her an idea about the new food item before putting it on the serving plate. This way he won’t feel confused, and it won’t seem like a waste of meal to you.
Keep an eye on what he drinks during the day
Some toddlers have little hunger at mealtimes because they’ve taken in too much calorie consumption from sugary drinks and dairy during the day.
You only need to provide between 350 ml and 500 ml of milk a day. Until your kid is two and keeps to full-fat milk as it contains more vitamin A than lower fat. While it can be annoying when you have a child who is a fussy eater and he or she is constantly denying the food you provide, it’s actually the way you deal with that situation that affects their ultimate eating habits.
